Jay Crawford injury update: Latest on Auburn starting cornerback
Auburn cornerback Jay Crawford is viewed as questionable at best ahead of Saturday’s trip to Texas A&M, sources tell On3. The starting cornerback has been dealing with a knee injury that kept him sidelined last week against Oklahoma.
Crawford exited the South Alabama game earlier this month with a knee injury. Hugh Freeze said entering Oklahoma week that Crawford would be dressed and see how pre-game goes, but wasn’t expected to take a large number of snaps. Instead, the cornerback was completely held out against the Sooners.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound SEC all-freshman selection posted 15 tackles, seven pass breakups and an interception in 2024. If Crawford misses a second week with a knee injury, Tulane transfer and return specialist Rayshawn Pleasant will be looked at to step up for the second consecutive week. He posted six tackles and a pass breakup last week at Oklahoma.
“We’ll see,” Freeze said of Jay Crawford on Monday. “Monday’s a total walkthrough; it’s hard to judge anything about how he really feels today.”

The Auburn secondary will be faced with its toughest test yet against the Aggies. Texas A&M features wide receivers Mario Craver and KC Concepcion. Craver leads the SEC in receiving yards with 443 through three games. The Mississippi State transfer currently leads FBS in receiving yards and has back-to-back games with a 70+ yard TD.
Concepcion, who is an NC State transfer, has 227 yards on 13 catches. Auburn is currently allowing 232.8 passing yards per game.
Kickoff Saturday for Auburn at No. 9 Texas A&M is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
