USF's defense was solid, but a little hit and miss last year. New head coach Brian Hartline overhauled the defensive side of the ball with a new defensive coordinator, Josh Aldridge (ECU), and kept a pair of assistant coaches (Chad Creamer and James Rowe) on that side of the ball while hiring mostly new coaches.
