Dan Sorensen is the co-founder and publisher of UteZone, one of the longest-running and most respected independent media outlets covering University of Utah athletics. For more than two decades, Dan has provided in-depth reporting, analysis, insider insights, and commentary on Utah football, basketball, and the rapidly evolving landscape of college athletics. Under his leadership, UteZone has grown into the largest and most active online community of Utah fans.

Widely regarded as one of the foremost authorities on Utah athletics, Dan has covered Utah football recruiting longer and more in depth than any other media personality in the market. His coverage has earned a reputation for balancing insider access with context and perspective, helping readers understand not only what is happening within Utah athletics, but why it matters. Dan’s extensive body of work spans thousands of published articles covering recruiting and roster development, team analysis, coaching hires, conference expansion, and the broader forces shaping college sports.

Sammy Mora, Managing Editor

Sammy Mora has been covering the Utes in one capacity or another since 2017, when she was a student reporter for the Daily Utah Chronicle. She joined the UteZone staff in 2019 and hasn’t looked back since. Sammy took over as the Managing Editor back in August of 2024 and has been running the day-to-day operations for UteZone since. When she isn’t working, Sammy loves to golf, listen to music, and spend time with her friends and family. 

Dawson Janes, Staff Writer

Dawson Janes is a graduate of the University of Utah with a degree in communications emphasizing journalism and a minor in special education. A native of Layton, Utah, Dawson aspires to become a sports broadcaster or work in a professional baseball front office. He has gained experience working with KSL Sports while also covering University of Utah athletics for UteZone.com. He also brings a strong baseball background, having played and coached high school baseball and previously served as a team manager for the University of Utah baseball program. A huge fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Dawson has a deep passion for baseball and sports storytelling.

John Leone, Staff Writer

John Leone is a senior at the University of Utah, where he is pursuing a double major in Journalism and Entrepreneurship with an expected graduation in Spring of 2027. John currently serves as the Sports Editor of the Daily Utah Chronicle and is a contributor at UteZone. This past year, he covered football, men’s basketball, and baseball at the University of Utah and has also reported on MLB, NBA, MLS, and a variety of other sporting events. His primary focus is Utah Athletics, and for him, this isn’t just a job; it’s exactly what he’s always wanted to do.
